Mon, April 06, 2020
Tricia Woodcock has been a Humber College Clinical Teacher at the Rekai Centre with both Bachelor of Nursing and Practical Nursing programs.
During the Fall 2019 term Tricia Woodcock led the Bachelor of Nursing community practicum group whose goal was to develop a population-based community health promotion project for the stakeholders in the clinical setting. In reviewing the literature and conducting a community needs assessment; social isolation, loss of social skills, histories of structural oppression, and lack of social opportunities were identified as concerns within the long term care population. At the Rekai Centre, the student group developed a project that aimed to provide a safe space where residents, staff, families, and volunteers were encouraged to come together and socialize in a lively environment. The "Social Room" was created and included plant therapy, technology, games, and music.
