The Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA & PTA) diploma has developed an extensive therapeutic skills laboratory. This state-of-the-art lab contains equipment designed to educate OTA & PTA learners to meet the changing needs and challenges of delivering effective rehabilitation. Students participate in OTA-specific and PTA-specific practical skills labs in semesters two (musculoskeletal), three (neurological and mental health), and four (cardio-respiratory and complex care). The labs are directly linked to the theoretical concepts discussed in the in-class portion of the respective course.

Through the use of the OTA-specific labs, students are exposed to a variety of therapeutic activities and assistive devices which provide them with the ability to practice therapeutic techniques to enhance their skills. The equipment and lab facilities offer student learning opportunities for client education practices, activity selection and grading, assistive device and personal appliance implementation as well as recommendations for environmental accommodations to enable individuals to maximize their independent function in their self care, productivity and leisure pursuits.
