Rekai Centre's first Clinical Instructor Award

Tricia Woodcock has been a Humber College Clinical Teacher at the Rekai Centre with both Bachelor of Nursing and Practical Nursing programs.
During the Fall 2019 term Tricia Woodcock led the Bachelor of Nursing community practicum group whose goal was to develop a population-based community health promotion project for the stakeholders in the clinical setting. In reviewing the literature and conducting a community needs assessment; social isolation, loss of social skills, histories of structural oppression, and lack of social opportunities were identified as concerns within the long term care population. At the Rekai Centre, the student group developed a project that aimed to provide a safe space where residents, staff, families, and volunteers were encouraged to come together and socialize in a lively environment. The "Social Room" was created and included plant therapy, technology, games, and music.

Premier Doug Ford, Minister of Colleges and Universities Ross Romano, and other local MPPs, attended Humber recently.
The visit was to echo their early February Nursing announcement and to discuss the implications with senior administrators at Humber.
The Provincial Government announced its intention to amend the 1991 Nursing Act, thereby permitting interested Colleges to offer baccalaureate Nursing programs. Humber College will be seeking approval to offer stand alone Nursing education, with the BScN nomenclature, commencing in 2021. Visitors toured the facilities and spoke with our students.
