I am a Wellness Coordinator for St. Michael’s Hospital.

Reflect on your time just prior to Humber. Why did you choose Humber College? What was your career ambition?

When I was in my kinesiology undergraduate degree, I had a passion to really help others in a way that felt unique to my classmates. I wanted to help motivate people to exercise and eat well. I was fascinated by courses such as Exercise Psychology and Physical Activity and Behaviour Change, but yet did not know what I wanted to do next or how to achieve the career goals I was looking for. I learned about the Humber ESLM program and decided it was a great fit to help me further discover what career I wanted to work towards. I knew Humber had a fantastic reputation and that the program was very unique.

How did the program set you on your path to where you are now?

I owe my success to ESLM. I always say that I learned way more in 1 year of this program than I did studying for 4 years in my undergraduate degree. The ESLM program takes everything you learn theoretical and gives you practical knowledge. This helps you carve out your future and determine what you like best about the kinesiology field. I had no idea at the time that there were so many options available within the kinesiology field. With the internship fairs, I was able to discover corporate wellness and knew this was the path for me. Additionally, in the Kinesiology as a Profession class, I heard a Wellness Coordinator talk about their experiences of working in healthcare. Something clicked. I knew I wanted to help people who were helping people. I was able to land an internship within healthcare wellness and work my way through to the private sector and then to a permanent role in healthcare. I truly feel that Humber made my path much easier.

What advice would you share to someone considering this field?

Kinesiology is an amazing field with so many opportunities. It’s amazing being in a career where you get to help others in so many ways. If you’ve finished your degree and are unsure of what to do, or want to gain confidence, I HIGHLY recommend this program. Without meaning to sound too cheesy, it truly set me on the trajectory towards the career of my dreams.
