Why did you choose Humber?

Humber College is not just a school but a community. Humber is actively helping students whenever they need it.

What are your career aspirations?

To be a nurse practitioner in a hospital setting. Humber College allows me to take the first step in my career journey as a nurse.

How have the faculty helped you on your studies and in achieving your future goals?

Humber College’s smaller class sizes helped professors engage with their students and allow for more one-on-one communication which ensures students are progressing in their education. The faculty at Humber College are always been there for me no matter what question I may have.

Did you have enough guidance throughout the program from the faculty and the school?

My program coordinator and many of the staff at Humber College gave me a lot of guidance in my nursing education. The way they do this is by giving me tips and tricks on how to balance my school, work and clinicals while also making sure that I’m putting my best effort into whatever I do at Humber College. The faculty at Humber want to ensure that you are progressing in your nursing career and that once you graduate from Humber College you will be working in your profession.

What would you say has been the single best learning experience in the program you are in?

Humber College’s simulation labs are the best experience for me as a student. The simulation labs are so amazing that it represents a real life situation, in which the simulation mannequins talk, speak, cry and have actual medical problems. This allows for the students to actively think about how they can give care to this patient. It prepares you well before you have that real patient to nurse interaction once you are on the job and in your clinicals.

What elements of the program are best preparing you for your career?

Humber College’s clinical placements prepare you for the real life nursing career that you will eventually have. When I started my clinical placements I was so afraid and out of my element but once I got the hang of it the nurses and the Personal Support Workers taught me how to give the best care to the patient. This included how to administer medications and how to have one on one conversations with patients and how to do simple things like just being there for your patient when most needed.

What is different about Humber compared to other community colleges (if you know)?

Humber College’s nursing program is very focused in comparison to other community colleges. The reason I chose Humber College as my first choice is because of the smaller class sizes and clinical simulation labs with the highest technology. The faculty very much care for their students and their success. Humber is also the only English speaking school which offers the usage of cadaver labs for nursing students.

Would you recommend this program to others? Why?

I would recommend this program to other people because once you graduate from Humber College from the practical nursing program you’re more than prepared to work in the real life and you feel confident knowing that what you are doing is true evidence-based practice. Humber College’s reputation is well known in the healthcare community and that allows for career success in many fields.
