Humber is proud to have the highest graduate employment and employer satisfaction rate of the GTA colleges based on Colleges Ontario’s key performance indicators for college graduates in 2022-2023.

Program Overview

Humber’s Paramedic diploma program gives you a solid grounding in the knowledge and skills needed for this intense, fast-paced profession. You will learn how to effectively deal with medical and traumatic emergencies through practical and theory courses in paramedical science, human anatomy, physiology and psychology, pharmacology, and patient lifting. Your in-depth paramedic training will also include instruction in the communications skills needed to interact with patients and to collaborate with colleagues on a health-care team.

You will learn about the various contexts in which paramedics work and put classroom concepts to use through a clinical practice course, exposing you to the role of paramedics in hospital departments such as acute and emergency care.

This program is not available to international applicants.

Work-Integrated Learning

Students graduate with more than 400 hours combined in both the paramedic services and experiential learning settings. Beginning in Semester 2, students may spend blocks of time or single days in these settings, depending on the placement.

Your Career

Be on the front lines of emergency and critical situations where you can use your medical expertise, compassionate nature and ability to think on your feet to respond to emergencies and save lives.

As a vital health-care professional, you are a first responder at the scenes of accidents, medical emergencies and other incidents, assessing patients and using specialized techniques, equipment and medicine to provide aid. As a paramedic, you are well prepared to address a variety of medical conditions and prepare patients for further care at the hospital. Your lifesaving capabilities extend to your ability to communicate effectively with doctors and nurses in emergency departments to ensure the safe transition of patients.

As a graduate of the program and once certified, you may find part-time or full-time employment in Ontario Paramedic Services. You can also pursue work on emergency response teams with patient transfer services and in sports injury management services with potential to progress into advanced paramedical services and management.
