Humber’s Biotechnology diploma program prepares graduates with the transferable skills needed to build successful careers in a variety of biotechnology and research sectors. The program balances theoretical understanding with experiential practices in specific laboratory skills needed by employers. These practical components are the focus of the program and are developed and reinforced through an integration of practical laboratory experiences. Integrative laboratory projects are designed to simulate a real life experience through translation of theory to practice. The Biotechnology program at Humber is designed, developed and delivered so that 40% of student contact hours is spent in laboratories in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semester of the program. Theoretical learning is extensively applied through hands-on experiences in the-state-of-the-art-laboratory, 8 hours per week. The fundamental skills are taught, developed, and reinforced throughout the two-year program. Work-ready graduates are developed in this program to confidently transition into the workforce.
Students entering into the Biotechnology program will benefit from a state-of-the-art, biotechnology laboratory, equipped with the latest technologies and equipment and is designed to maximize the teaching and learning experience. Students spend 8 hours per week in the lab experiencing applied and practical skills.

It is our vision and mission to offer our learners the means to excel in the field of biotechnology by providing industry relevant professional, technical, theoretical, and hands on experience. We strive to develop work ready learners upon graduation through a collaborative partnership between students and the program. Our Biotechnology’s exclusive state-of-the-art laboratory provides a student centred learning environment and offers ample opportunities to integrate theoretical learning into real industry hands-on experience. Our goal is to simulate an internship-like experience, in-house, over a 2-year academic period to empower students with the essential skills and confidence necessary to be successful in this field. Biotechnology has applications in many industrial fields such as health/medical, agriculture, food, non-food, environment, pharma/drug, etc. The wide extent of biotechnological application in modifying biological systems for specific and beneficial uses in the society has created an overwhelming demand for skilled talents. While Canada has the opportunity to capitalize on biotechnology, it has a critical shortage of highly skilled talents.
