Please be advised that the standard requirement for all of our programs, courses, and micro-credential offerings available to Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) is current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and entitlement to practice without restrictions. Any additional program-specific requirements will be clearly advertised. In the absence of any stated additional requirements, the above standard must be met and maintained prior to registration. Applicants who do not meet these standards are not eligible to enroll, and registration will not be permitted.
All classes (online and face-to- face) use a learning management system called Blackboard. The tools within Blackboard support student learning and engagement through the dissemination of course information and learning materials and by providing access to various communication tools. In addition to instructors sharing course material and resources, assessment submission and other evaluations may be administered in Blackboard. Use from course to course may vary and your instructor will clarify any expectations for use of the course site.
Students will have access to their blackboard site up to three (3) days before the start of their first class. To login, go to learn.humber.ca and enter your username and password. For more information on how to use Blackboard, please click here.
If you are experiencing technical difficulties when using Blackboard during course assessments, please email cplhealthsciences@humber.ca and write “Blackboard Assessment Issue” as your email title.
Please note: Final grades are NOT posted on Blackboard; they are only posted in the CPL portal
Standard courses are offered over a 14-week period.
Condensed courses are offered over a 7-week period and contain the same content and assessments as the same course that is 14-weeks long. These courses can be more demanding, and learners should expect to spend 10-15 hours per week on course material.
Condensed courses give a learner the opportunity to “fast track” and take two condensed courses at the same time it would take to complete one course.
*We recommend that you allot an additional 6-9 hours per week for full term classes (14-week format) and 12-18 hours per week for condensed classes (7-week format) to successfully complete these courses.
In-Person - An in-person course is delivered fully on campus.
Lab – A Lab is an in person course delivered fully on campus in a designated lab.
Online Asynchronous (A) - An online asynchronous course has no fixed class schedule and allows students to engage with the course at different times according to their needs. Faculty provide modules, which are completed independently by the students according to established deadlines.
Online Synchronous (S) - An online synchronous course is delivered fully online and requires faculty and students to participate in real-time according to a fixed schedule. Classes are scheduled for a specific day and time.
Hybrid - A hybrid course is a combination of in-person/lab and online classes and follows a set schedule. Students must be available to attend in-person component at scheduled times during the semester.
For 14/15-week courses:
For 7/8-week courses:
Important: Please refer to the Verification of Registration email from the Office of the Registrar for the exact drop and withdrawal deadlines for your specific course(s). Different rules may apply to specialized courses, and any exceptions will be noted.
All theory courses offered by the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences Continuous Professional Learning Department require the achievement of 65% or higher to successfully pass the course. Grades for clinical placement/practicum courses are assessed as satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Different rules may apply to specialized courses, and any exceptions will be noted.
For online evaluations (through Blackboard, Evolve, or any other learning management system), please note the following policy:
If, at any time during your electronic evaluation, you experience technical difficulties, you must contact the Continuous Professional Learning Team via email at cplhealthsciences@humber.ca on the day and time of the examination.
