Tell us what you’re doing workwise right now.

I am practicing as a TCMP and Acupuncturist. I am running a wellness clinic with 2 other registered massage therapists (RMT).

Reflect on your time just prior to Humber. Why did you choose Humber College? What was your career ambition?

I grew up in a family of Traditional Medicine Practitioners and always knew I wanted to do something to help others. I was naturally drawn to this field and chose Humber because it was the first time the program was being offered at a public institution. At the time, I was working in the childcare field and it was not an easy decision for me to go back to school as a full time student. However, if I was going to do it, I wanted the best learning experience; I wanted to learn from qualified professors instead of simply working toward the registration board exam. That’s why I chose Humber.

How did the program set you on your path to where you are now?

I got to meet many competent practitioners and I learned a lot from their experiences. Every professor was very proud of what they do and were passionate about teaching. The on-site Tzu Chi clinic really helped me become more confident when talking to patients and providing treatments. Students in the program can complete many clinical hours in this clinic. I was fortunate to be selected for an international internship at Hong Kong Baptist University where I got to meet great doctors and students in the same field. I still keep in touch with those students I met in Hong Kong and I feel so blessed to have such valuable connections internationally.

What advice would you share to someone considering this field?

I highly recommend the Humber Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner program to anyone who is considering it. It is such a great philosophy and a strong program. Maximize your learning and utilize the most out of the program when you can. I regret not asking enough questions at the time. I was a hard working student yet, if I could, I would go back to school for more learning!
