Why did you choose Humber College?

I loved the campus and the amenities available for the students. I was very impressed with the classrooms and labs that were used for my programs.

What are your career aspirations?

I’ve already had a variety of experience in both Personal Training and Health Coaching roles, so I aspire to work up the ladder! The great part about fitness and health is that there is an endless amount of variety in the industry and where your studies + experience can take you.

Further career aspirations include Fitness Management, a Health Promoter role in workplaces or the schoolboard, or possibly a professor for fitness & wellness studies in colleges (who knows, maybe Humber!)

How have the faculty helped you on your road to reaching your goals?

I have met some of the most amazing professors at Humber! I’ve had the pleasure of being taught by professors who spoke to their students as equals, provided a welcoming environment for questions and endless help with learning concepts.

I have still stayed in contact with a few professors since and they have always been open to help anytime I have reached out.

What would you say was the single best learning experience in the program you are in?

The great part about both the fitness and nutrition programs are that both programs are about MORE than just fitness and nutrition. The “health promotion” aspect of both programs have helped me communicate more effectively to clients, and be able to apply different aspects of the dimensions of health into my work to make services more accessible and helpful to others.

What elements of the programs are best preparing you for your career?

No particular order, just listing:

  • Fitness program design: I have been able to easily design various programs to clients of different experience, capabilities and equipment availability
  • Food security: I now understand that you cannot just tell someone to “eat this and eat that”, it’s more-so about understanding what foods they like and have access to
  • Health Promotion: Health is more than just fitness and nutrition, it’s about overall wellness! Sleep, stress, mental health, social health, financial stability, and environment are all equally as important as well
  • Awareness of disordered eating/eating disorders: I have never approached a client telling them which food is good or bad since completing these programs, nor have I “food policed” them while being a Personal Trainer or Health Coach.

Would you recommend this program to others and why?

Absolutely! I can’t express the amount of information I have learned and passed forward from these programs. I made great friends, had awesome professors, felt heard & seen by the IGNITE body, loved the school itself and all of the endless facilities available.
