I chose Humber College because I knew it had the highest standard of lab technology available. Furthermore, I knew that it would put me in the best position possible to make the direct transition directly into the Guelph-Humber Kinesiology program.
My career aspirations are to successfully launch and maintain my own strength and conditioning company. I successfully launched my business in the summer of 2021. I would also like to come back to Humber and teach the next generation of Fitness and Health Promotion students one day.
The faculty helped me in multiple ways. The faculty allowed me to stay connected as a guest speaker beyond graduation, to help guide the next generation with questions or concerns they may have. The faculty also helped me financially, as I received a scholarship that was only accepting nominations directly from a professor. This demonstrates the attention given to the students by the faculty of this program.
The single best learning experience I have had would probably be lab access, with the internship being a close second. The lab access and experience will separate you from your competition outside of school. The internship allows you to get a better understanding of how scenarios in a classroom translate to the reality of the market, preparing you for real world scenarios of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
The element of the program that best prepared me for the reality of my career was the internship. Although all elements that we learn throughout the program are important, the internship illuminated the difference in crucial skills you would need depending upon what you choose to focus on.
I would recommend this program to anyone. I am confident in saying this program will develop more competence in the future fitness and health promotion professionals than a lot of kinesiology programs will. The hands-on experience, attention to detail, and relatability by faculty is, and will continue to be, unmatched. My respect, admiration, and appreciation for every individual from professors to custodians and support staff will not waver anytime soon.
