Tell us what you’re doing workwise right now.

I am presently employed as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Dynacare Laboratories.

Reflect on your time just prior to Humber. Why did you choose Humber College? What was your career ambition?

I have always had a passion for serving humanity through healthcare. After graduating from high school, I did some volunteer work at a hospital which made me realize my passion for laboratory work thus I decided to pursue a career in medical laboratory science.

After much research about colleges in Canada, I choose to study at Humber College as an International Student. I choose Humber because I was very impressed with the International Student Services, the bioscience laboratory, the level of expertise in the professors and the general aesthetic of the college.

How did the program set you on your path to where you are now?

After successful completion of the Biotechnology program, I started to work as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant. The laboratory experience I gained in the Biotechnology program at Humber College helped me to secure my first laboratory job in Canada during the Covid-19 pandemic. In just a few months, I was promoted to Senior Clinical Laboratory Assistant and subsequently Technical Assistant. My previous education and experience contributed to my eligibility to write and pass the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science Certification Examination. Now, I am working as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.

What advice would you share to someone considering this field?

To anyone pursuing a career in medical lab sciences, tenacity is key! I encourage you to work hard, be consistent, and stay committed to your goals. Face your challenges with zest. In the words of Maya Angelou -- “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it”.
