Why did you choose Humber College? and/or this program?

With a biotechnology background acquired from the Humber College diploma program, I wanted to explore more career opportunities and further advance my career by pursuing a bachelor's program in biomedical sciences. The program that I am studying at Humber College offers a state-of-the-art education, hands-on experience, a summer field experience, and innovative techniques to advance human health and medicine in this interdisciplinary field, which influenced my interest. Apart from this, Humber College offers exceptional professors from all walks of life who have significant industry experience and are dedicated to preparing their students for successful careers.

Did you attend an Open House at Humber College or an Information Session? How was it helpful?

Everyone should attend Humber’s open house because it's a great way to know if Humber is a good fit for you, and you will be confident in your decision with incredible on-going Ignite [Humber’s student union] events, new friends, discovering your hidden talents, supportive staff members, and overall a place that will welcome you with open arms.

What has your experience been like so far at Humber College? Within your program? The faculty? The labs? Student life?

Undoubtedly the best experience so far. Humber College as a whole offers students a safe, respected, healthy, civil, diverse community that keeps them engaged in learning with excellent facilities. The Biomedical Sciences program at Humber itself enlightened me about interprofessional collaboration, where integrating knowledge from numerous fields of study would use their skills to achieve a common goal. I’m beyond thankful to the faculty for being such understanding and cooperative professors because it helps me to comprehend the course material, keep me steady on my A-game, and keeps me motivated in the courses I have taken so far. Humber offers state-of-the-art labs where students can practice with the latest technologies and equipment to maximize the learning experience. Through Ignite events, my student life is fun and outgoing, where I made several friends along the way and got the chance to meet one of my favorite YouTubers, as well as engaging in weekly activities and the opportunity to win several giveaways.

What is your favorite memory so far in the program? or favorite class?

It has to be the cadaver lab hands down. Humber College is the only publicly funded college that houses cadavers in Ontario, and as a student, it’s the most precious moment where you aren’t restrained to textbooks because you are able to explore, learn, and engage more about anatomical structures for real-life experiences. We are truly grateful for people who are involved in the Body Donation program at Humber College; because of you, we are able to have a unique learning opportunity.

Have you had a Work-Integrated Learning experience yet? (otherwise known as a field placement, an internship, a practicum). What was your biggest take-away from that?

No WIL experience yet. The Biomedical Sciences program includes a work-integrated learning component, which is an excellent way for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a workplace environment, ultimately providing an opportunity to learn and reflect on their experiences in the workplace as well as educational circumstances. I’m looking forward to using my expertise obtained from both my Biotechnology diploma and Biomedical degree program and put them into action.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your first-year self?

The only advice I would give is to maintain your mental and physical wellness.
Post-secondary school is very different from high school; you will be exposed to several new things, people, places, and experiences, which may stress you out, and it’s essential to look after your health, drink water, sleep, and take time out for yourself during the day.

Message to future students: Congratulations! Stay determined about the challenging and exciting journey ahead of you, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
