What semester are you in: 8

Why did you choose Humber College? and/or this program?

I chose Humber because I had previously attended Humber College for the Occupational Therapist Assistant & Physiotherapist Assistant diploma program. There is a Humber ‘pathway’ where my diploma is recognized and I entered the degree program in year 3, and it was an easy process to do so. After working as a physiotherapist assistant for 8 years, I started to see the rising importance of employee wellness and how it can really affect the workplace.

Did you attend an Open House at Humber College or an Information Session? How was it helpful?

I attended an open house before I started the BHSW program to see the new and different services that Humber offers, compared to the services offered when I first went to Humber. I found it super helpful because of the new and different student resources I can access, as well as how much support students can get for their wellness at school.

What has your experience been like so far at Humber College? Within your program? The faculty? The labs? Student life?

Humber has been so much fun with all the new experiences that I had both from school and within my program. I was able to explore new topics such as Project Management and Occupational Health and Safety which helped me gain skills I can use in everyday life! As for my student life, I was able to participate in many workshops and events that the school offered that helped me have fun, take a break, and even gain new skills.

What is your favorite memory so far in the program? or favourite class?

My favorite class so far in the program is Project Management. I found my passion after taking that class and will be pursuing my Project Management Professional (PMP) designation because of it. I learned so many useful planning skills that I will be taking with me to my future workplace.

Have you had a Work-Integrated Learning experience yet? (otherwise known as a field placement, an internship, a practicum). What was your biggest take-away from that?

Yes, I had my internship at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and it was the most amazing experience ever. My biggest take-away from my internship is that wellness in the workplace is not an easy concept to implement but not impossible, and it’s people like us in the BHSW that will help to push forward the initiative to prioritize employee wellness.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your first-year self?

The advice I would give myself would be “try everything and anything because you will never find your passion unless you try”.
