One of the biggest reasons I chose this program was the availability of the pathway from the Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion diploma program. I wanted to learn and open career opportunities that still promoted wellness. I also chose Humber College because when I met with the program advisor I felt a warm welcome.
I didn’t attend an Open House or Information Session but met with a program coordinator who made me want to apply to Humber College. It was helpful talking to the coordinator as they made me understand what courses I would be taking, potential careers I could have, and how to apply to get into the program via the pathway.
Overall, my experience with Humber has been great. Learning from various professors who work in the field they’re teaching in has given me confidence in what I can do. The professors are helpful and understanding; they care about my education and well-being. My experience with the program has been enjoyable, and I learned a variety of theories that I could apply in my daily and professional life. The Faculty’s staff provide support, especially when I reach out and I’m given proper services that help. Lastly, I have made great friends who have made my time in Humber enjoyable and memorable.
My favourite memory in this program would be my internship [Work-Integrated Learning]. It was an excellent opportunity to apply the knowledge I have learned in class in a practical setting. I had many favourite classes, one being Health and Safety since the knowledge can be used in any environment. Digital Innovations was another class I enjoyed as it helped me be creative with my problem-solving skills. Lastly, I found my passion to lead in the Project Management class and would want to continue building on that skill.
Yes, I did my internship [Work-Integrated Learning] last summer, and the biggest takeaway is the importance of communicating, as it can help in many situations. Furthermore, I also learned that practical experience is as essential as knowledge since it can help give realistic expectations of what I can expect in the future.
My biggest advice to my first-year self is to be present and soak in what you are learning. Don’t overthink the future; let life show you where you should be. Time will run quickly, and you will be done before you know it; you will figure it out along the way.
