Refund Information - Continuous Professional Learning
Generally $25 of the fee is non-refundable unless Humber cancels the course. However, some courses have unique refund policies. Please be sure you understand the refund policy before you register.
If Humber cancels the course, a full refund will be granted. If you decide to Drop, Transfer or Withdraw from your course, you must
do this by logging into the CPL Learner Portal before the date listed under Important Dates on this webpage. Drop/Transfer/Withdraw deadlines are also posted in the Learner Portal and are noted in your Registration Receipt email.
Note: Leaving an email or phone message to request a Drop, Transfer or Withdrawal is not acceptable and will not be processed.
For Refunds, where payment was made by Visa or MasterCard, a credit will be applied to the credit card that was used.

The IEN - Education Requirement is a CNO-approved program designed for internationally educated nurses (IEN), including both registered nurses (RN) and registered practical nurses (RPN), who have been advised by the College of Nurses of Ontario to pursue additional education. This program is offered in a condensed format, featuring online theoretical courses and an in-person laboratory course at Humber Polytechnic's North Campus.

IENP 101Comprehensive Nursing Education
This theoretical course explores the many factors that shape the health and wellness of individual clients, families and communities. The determinants of health are discussed, and relevant evidence, commissioned reports and health-care policies are analyzed. Students study the concepts of family-centered care, cultural competence and advanced communication techniques to develop a practice approach that is congruent within the client’s needs and goals, ways of living and expected outcomes of care. Respect for the uniqueness and rights of each client are fundamental principles that are threaded throughout each topic in this course. There will be a focus on mental health supports, palliative care, MAID regulations and trauma informed care. Extended time and attention is given to developing holistic nursing care strategies for various populations. This course is part of the IEN Education Pathway Certificate.
IENP 102Clinical Lab for Internationally Educated Nurses
In a simulated practice environment, students engage in learning opportunities to build professional identity and use problem solving and decision-making skills; work as an effective team member; build caring environments, develop therapeutic relationships; and use communication skills. With guidance, students move toward self-directed proficiency in the nursing process. Students work collaboratively to assess, plan, meet, evaluate and document clients’ health-care needs and health outcomes using a theory-based approach and relevant evidence, standards and guidelines. Each week, students complete pre-lecture learning activities to adequately prepare for active learning. Teaching methodologies include online resources, class demonstrations, hands-on practice, role play, clinical simulations, and teacher and peer feedback activities.
In the clinical practice environment, students engage in learning opportunities to build professional identity and use problem solving and decision-making skills; work as an effective team member; build caring environments, develop therapeutic relationships and use communication skills. With faculty, nursing, and inter-professional health-care provider guidance, students move toward self-directed proficiency in providing quality client care. Students work collaboratively to assess, plan, meet, evaluate and document clients’ health-care needs and health outcomes using a theory-based approach and relevant evidence, standards and guidelines. In this course, students are required to apply knowledge of all pre-requisite courses with competency required in quality assurance and reflective practice. Kouzes & Posner’s Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership, and nursing theories and frameworks will be analyzed by the student to foster their own professional development. Teaching methodologies include clinical practicum; online resources; and health-care provider, teacher and peer feedback activities.
