The IEN - Education Requirement is a CNO-approved program designed for internationally educated nurses (IEN), including both registered nurses (RN) and registered practical nurses (RPN), who have been advised by the College of Nurses of Ontario to pursue additional education. This program is offered in a condensed format, featuring online theoretical courses and an in-person laboratory course at Humber Polytechnic's North Campus.
Please note that as per the CNO registration requirements, the Transition to Practice (TTP) course is an additional course needed to meet this registration requirement. The TTP course needs to be completed before your clinical placement starts. The TTP course is not included in Humber's IEN Education Pathway Course List but must be taken as a separate course. The TTP course is available through multiple colleges, including Humber, to meet CNO's registration requirements.

In the clinical practice environment, students engage in learning opportunities to build professional identity and use problem solving and decision-making skills; work as an effective team member; build caring environments, develop therapeutic relationships and use communication skills. With faculty, nursing, and inter-professional health-care provider guidance, students move toward self-directed proficiency in providing quality client care. Students work collaboratively to assess, plan, meet, evaluate and document clients’ health-care needs and health outcomes using a theory-based approach and relevant evidence, standards and guidelines. In this course, students are required to apply knowledge of all pre-requisite courses with competency required in quality assurance and reflective practice. Kouzes & Posner’s Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership, and nursing theories and frameworks will be analyzed by the student to foster their own professional development. Teaching methodologies include clinical practicum; online resources; and health-care provider, teacher and peer feedback activities.
This course is delivered as a placement. Scheduling, location, and hours vary based on placement requirements.
