Student Testimonial - Kasey

Name: Kasey
Program: Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences
What semester are you in: Semester 8

Why did you choose Humber? and/or this program?

The reason why I chose Humber was because when I first started in Humber’s Biotechnology Diploma program, I felt the amount of support from faculty, and my peers were tremendous. Watching myself grow as a student has taken me to a whole new level of confidence. [Kasey took advantage of an established pathway to advance their credentials; after successful completion of Humber’s 2-year diploma in Biotechnology, Kasey entered directly into the third year of the Biomedical Sciences degree].

Did you attend an Open House at Humber or an Information Session? How was it helpful?

No, I did not attend an Open House or any Information Session but, if I were to go back in time I would have liked to attend.

What has your experience been like so far at Humber? or within your program? Think about the faculty, the labs, student life.

I have enjoyed every moment at Humber and within my program. The faculty have been supportive in terms of helping me achieve good grades and guiding me on how to navigate on what I want to do next. The labs have been tremendous because they gave me a practical component to some of the theory classes.

What is your favorite memory so far in the program? or favorite class?

My favourite memory so far in the program has been working on my capstone/thesis project. I took my research and critical thinking skills to a new level.

Have you had a Work-Integrated Learning experience yet? (otherwise known as a field placement, an internship, a practicum). What was your biggest take-away from that?

I had a Work-Integrated Learning Experience which took place during the summer semester of 2024. One of the biggest take-aways from that was sharpening not only my critical thinking skills but, also enhancing my journal reading skills.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your first-year self?

If I were to give myself a piece of advice it would be to continue to work hard and trust in your instincts. During the research process, it is so easy to give up and doubt yourself. Trust the process of it.
