Pre-Placement Requirements/Clearance
Know This Before You Apply
MOST programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness have a work-integrated learning component.
Most placements require 1 or 2 types of clearance:
- Medical Requirements and
- Non-medical Requirements.
It is the student’s responsibility, including expenses, to obtain the necessary information. The information collected is kept confidential. It is intended for use by Humber Polytechnic Work-Integrated Learning to ensure you meet the clearance requirements needed for placement.
Each program has different requirements. To attend placement you must obtain clearance as outlined by your program. Requirements are a combination of specifications by government legislation, placement agencies, the field of study, the program and Humber.
Why Medical Requirements?
It is imperative to make sure that YOU are safe and protected, as well as those you'll be interacting with (colleagues, peers, patients, clients). For example (this is not a comprehensive list), showing immunization records and laboratory blood tests.
Why Non-Medical Requirements?
It is imperative to make sure that YOU are informed, equipped and protected. For example (this is not a comprehensive list) showing police record checks, completing first aid/ CPR, and achieving certificates on accessibility, and health & safety.
Transportation
Placements occur in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. Students are required to provide or arrange their own transportation. Any expenses are the student’s responsibility.
Police Record Checks for Vulnerable Sector
For programs requiring a police record check, this requirement is not intended to exclude individuals. It is a requirement of most health care professions, educators, and other professions working with persons in the vulnerable sector. A clear police record check must be maintained for the duration of the program through to graduation. A student who has been charged or convicted (and not yet pardoned) will likely be denied entry by a WIL partner, and placements must be satisfied to graduate. A prospect or student who is challenged with meeting this WIL requirement will be encouraged to seek guidance from Advising & Career Services during any of the pre-admission, admission, or pre-graduation stages.
