Humber College is committed to encouraging and supporting all students towards lifelong learning.

The School of Health Sciences has created a 'Pathway to Success' opportunity towards entry into the Practical Nursing program.

This pathway is designed for those students who may lack one or more of the pre-requisite requirements for entry into the Practical Nursing program.

Pre-requisite requirements into the Practical Nursing program are as follows:

  • Grade 11 or 12  Biology (SB13C or SB13U, SBI4C, or SBI4U)
  • Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry  (SCH3U, SCH4C or SCH4U)
  • Grade 12 Math  (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U)
  • Completion of above subjects will prepare applicants to write the mandatory pre-admission testing in essay writing, Math, Biology and Chemistry.

Entry into the Practical Nursing program may be achieved through the successful completion of one of the following educational 'pathways to success'.

Each option varies in length depending on required courses. All courses within the 'Pathway to Success' are based on availability and scheduling.

Option #1

Applicants who needs academic upgrading in English, Math and Sciences and applying as a mature student (19 years old and above) may:

  • Apply to Literacy Basic Skills Program (LBS)
    This is a free upgrading program open to students 19 years of age and older to assist them to upgrade their English, Sciences (Biology and Chemistry) and Math. After completion of the LBS Program, students are prepared to write the Practical Nursing pre-admission test.

  • Take the following academic subjects in Adult Day or Night school – Grade 12 English, Grade 11 or 12 Biology, Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry, and Grade 12 Math. Successful completion of these subjects will prepare students in writing the pre-admission testing. Contact your local high school for course details.

Students taking Option 1 are required to write the mandatory pre-admission testing. Admission decision will only be based from the result of the test.

Options #2

Applicants who are upgrading all academic subjects - also applying as a mature student

  • Apply to General Arts and Science – Technology Profile (Program Code-0921) – Full time, two semesters (8 months) program starting every September only.

Admission requirements:

Mandatory pre-admission tests in English, Math, Biology and Chemistry. Only test scores in English and Math will be used for admission purposes. The science tests results will be used in evaluating student preparedness for the program.

Student’s essay must be evaluated and placed at COMM 200 or ESL 200 level. A minimum score of 65% in Math is required to qualify. Math sample test is available on our website at

Students who successfully completed the GAS-Technology Profile will qualify for entry into the Practical Nursing Program.
