In this course, the concept of biotechnology will be introduced as an integration between science and technology. The benefits and risks of its application will be explored. Students will gain an understanding of biotechnology as an invaluable tool in a wide range of fields, such as agriculture, environment, medicine, world hunger, etc. Ethical, legal and social implications of biotechnology in areas such as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) are discussed.
