Introduction to Microbiology

Students will examine the structure and physiology of microorganisms through the use of basic microbiological techniques, including staining and microscopy, media preparation and culture techniques, quantitation of microbial populations, the examination of physical and chemical factors which affect the growth of microbes and methods used to isolate and identify common bacteria. Students will enhance this theory-based education with virtual laboratory experiences.
