The pharmaceutical industry is facing accelerated development. As society is aging more focus is being given to the development of new drugs and the improvement of health care. Pharmaceutical, biotechnology and the medical device industries are experiencing constant growth, stimulated by market opportunities and by advances in the biotechnology sector. As new therapeutic technologies and diagnostic products are being developed, more jobs are being created in the Clinical Research field. Increase demand in the quality of research and development associated with the biopharmaceutical industry has made a positive impact on the job market.
Clinical research involves human studies where products are tested in multiple phases to assess if they are safe and efficacious. Clinical testing is a necessary step (ethical and regulatory) in the development of new therapeutic/diagnostic products. Industry has the responsibility to follow stringent international, federal, and provincial regulations when planning and implementing preclinical and clinical studies; along with the development and manufacturing of medical products.

Internship/Field Placement
A three-month placement provides students with an opportunity to apply and integrate gained knowledge and skills in a real world work setting. Most placements are in the following sectors: pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device organizations; government agencies and hospitals.
The industry internship portion of the program is a crucial element of education in the Clinical Research program and is compulsory in obtaining a certificate. Students together with Humber staff actively cooperate with a wide variety of organizations to ensure relevant training is provided.
Our placement system allows students to apply to a variety of companies and clinical sites and it also allows the companies to choose suitable candidates for possible position. Students apply for positions and are interviewed by potential internship employers, who after the interview decide regarding the internship offer.
