To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses: 
    • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent) 
    • Grade 11 or Grade 12 Biology (SBI3C, SBI3U or SBI4U or equivalent) 
    • Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above




All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

Mature Applicants

An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older (21 or older for degree programs) as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U level or equivalent.

College Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber will use your college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

University Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber will use your university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

Selection Includes Secondary Requirements:

Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated and the result of the evaluation of additional secondary requirements. Secondary requirements may include a portfolio, audition, letter of intent, references, etc., and vary by program.  Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission.

Post-Admission Requirements:

During the first semester of the program:

  • Complete immunization record
  • Valid Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)-C for Health Care Providers (HCP) certificates
  • N95 Mask Fit Testing
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen.

Successful completion of placement is a requirement for graduation from the OTA/PTA program. Agencies that provide placement opportunities require you to have a clear Police Records Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector (PRCSVS). Your acceptance for placement is at the discretion of the agency. If you register in the program without a clear PRCSVS and, as a result, are unable to participate in the placement, you will not be able to graduate. Police records checks may need to be renewed every three to six months depending upon placement requirements of each setting

Bachelor of Applied Management

Graduates of any two-year diploma program at Humber who have attained a cumulative grade point average of 70% or greater will be eligible to enter year three of the 4-yr Bachelor of Applied Management (BAM) at the University of New Brunswick. Depending on the diploma program, students may be exempted from study in certain courses and therefore, requested to take alternate courses offered by the Faculty of Business.

may apply to Thompson Rivers University's Bachelor of Health degree program. Students are required to provide original documentation showing their full post secondary academic history along with graduation with a relevant certificate and/or diploma. A block transfer of up to 54 credits may be granted with an additional 66 credits required for program completion. 

Students may inquire about completing the Bachelor of Health degree on campus or by distance.

Secondary Requirements

In order to continue with your application for Occupational Therapist Assistant / Physiotherapist Assistant, you must complete this step in the application process. Applicant selection is based on academic criteria and results of mandatory admission testing. This document contains all information you need to for this test.

Applicants must meet both academic and secondary requirements in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility does not guarantee an offer of admission. If you have any questions, please contact Admissions.

Applicants are required to complete mandatory admission testing in senior-level biology, chemistry, writing, and math. A $50 assessment fee will be charged at the time of registration.

Applicants may prepare for the tests by reviewing The Complete Preparation Guide – Health Occupation Entrance Exams, published by Learning Express (ISBN 1-57685-7166).

Registration Instructions

Applicants must register to attend this admissions event. Log-in to MyHumber to register:

  1. Log-in to MyHumber
  2. Select the Applicant tab
  3. Select the Applied Programs tab
  4. Select your Year and Applicant Number from the drop-down menu, then click Submit
  5. Click on “Do I Have Any Missing Requirements”
  6. Click on “Book an Event” (located under the “Link” section, near the bottom right of the page)
  7. Choose from a list of available assessment dates and follow the prompts

All secondary requirements will be evaluated and a score will be calculated by the academic school.

Admission decisions will be available via MyHumber, or by email and mail. Admission decisions will not be released by phone.

Our Program

Humber’s Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA) diploma program was the first in Ontario to provide formal educational preparation for occupational therapist assistants (OTAs) and physiotherapist assistants (PTAs) and continues to provide quality education. You will learn to assist in the implementation of rehabilitation treatment plans and programs developed to promote clients’ independence, activities and function. Areas of focus include restoring and maximizing physical function and occupational performance, ultimately enabling clients to effectively utilize their abilities in movement, daily functioning and activity while promoting overall well-being.

Courses Program Standards

Work Placement

Practise your skills and acquire hands-on experience during over 600 hours (16 weeks) of unpaid fieldwork placements. These placements are arranged by the program fieldwork placement advisor during Semester 2, Semester 3 and Semester 4.

You will have the opportunity to be exposed to leading-edge therapeutic skills, equipment and health-care facilities. This program offers the privilege of participating in clinical placements in occupational therapy and physiotherapy at some of the top teaching hospitals in Canada.

Your Career

There are many reasons why a person may require occupational therapy and/or physiotherapy rehabilitation services. In addition to health and wellness promotion, individuals may require assistance returning to their activities of daily living and regular work due to falls, motor vehicle accidents,  sports injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke, mental health conditions and chronic illnesses such as cystic fibrosis and diabetes. If you relish the challenges of creative problem solving and critical thinking; have good physical, mental and social health; and enjoy meeting people while wishing to work with those who are physically, developmentally, and/or emotionally challenged, a career as an OTA/PTA is for you. You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of environments such as acute care and community hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, long-term care facilities, private practice, and retail.

Professional Accreditations

This program is accredited by the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant Education Accreditation Program in collaboration with Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.

Graduates are eligible to become associate members of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and/or National Physiotherapist Assistant Assembly of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
