  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
    • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
    • Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent)
    • Grade 11 or Grade 12 Biology (SBI3C, SBI3U or SBI4U or equivalent)
    • Grade 11 or Grade 12 Chemistry (SCH3U, SCH4C or SCH4U or equivalent)

Mature Applicants

An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older (21 or older for degree programs) as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U level or equivalent.

College Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber will use your college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

University Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber will use your university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

Selection: Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

Graduates of any two-year diploma program at Humber who have attained a cumulative grade point average of 70% or greater will be eligible to enter year three of the 4-yr Bachelor of Applied Management (BAM) at the University of New Brunswick. Depending on the diploma program, students may be exempted from study in certain courses and therefore, requested to take alternate courses offered by the Faculty of Business.

Our Program

Humber’s Biotechnology diploma program provides you with the transferrable skills needed to build successful careers in a variety of biotechnology and research sectors. The program balances theoretical understanding with hands-on practice in specific laboratory skills needed by employers. These practical components are the focus of the program and are developed through an integration of hands-on laboratory experiences and virtual laboratory exercises. The diploma provides a valuable specialization to students interested in life sciences programs without having to go elsewhere for practical laboratory skills training.

Biotechnology is positioned to have a significant effect on Canada over the next 15 years, and biotechnology jobs are on the rise. While Canada has the opportunity to capitalize on biotechnology, it has a critical shortage of highly skilled talent. Our program prepares you to move into entry-level laboratory science positions in diverse bio-based sectors such as agriculture, health, bioinformatics, food and beverage bioprocesses, environmental assessment, protection and remediation, pharmaceutical preparation and testing, industrial product analysis, development and manufacturing, medical diagnostic testing, or related research and development.
