The emphasis of Clinical Placement 1 is on TCM diagnosis, herbal medicine, jurisprudence and safety with an introduction to acupuncture skill in the clinic. Students apply knowledge of TCM theory and herbology foundations in a supervised clinical practice setting. With direct patient contact, students develop caring, compassionate and respectful relationships with patients and develop herbal medicine treatment plans in a safe and competent manner. They perform TCM clinical assessment techniques on patients to create a TCM diagnosis, differentiate the TCM syndromes, develop treatment principles, select herbal formulas, provide acupuncture treatment and monitor the treatment outcomes. Students develop professional and ethical behaviour using professional communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills in everyday practice .
